In 1972, Helen Pepperdine served on the board of trustees of the university her late husband George had founded 35 years earlier. Helen had opposed the choice of the site in Malibu for Pepperdine's suburban expansion in 1968, preferring a property in Westlake Village where the Westlake Village Community Park is located today.1
Helen Louise Davis met George Pepperdine in 1932, following the death of his first wife, Lena. Helen and George were married in 1934, three years before he founded the college that would bear his name.2
